Top ProductPlan alternatives

ProductPlan is a planning tool sold by quote. If your roadmap is an internal planning document, Aha!, Productboard, and airfocus are the nearer fits. If your roadmap is something customers look at and vote on, these are the alternatives to ProductPlan worth a look.

  1. Public feedback board, roadmap, changelog, and live chat in one product, on your own domain and inside your app, with Juno, an AI operator who answers customers and drafts your changelog. Flat pricing, unlimited users, and a free plan.

Best for: SaaS teams whose roadmap is for customers, and who want the requests behind it and the conversations around it in the same tool.

  2. Aha!

A product management suite with an ideas portal and a separate roadmaps product, priced per seat.

Best for: Larger product orgs that want planning and feedback under one roof and have the budget for it.

  3. Feedback, prioritization, and roadmaps for product teams, priced per maker.

Best for: Product teams that want planning on top of feedback and are fine with a portal customers click out to.

  4. Roadmaps in a Now, Next, Later format, with ideas and feedback sold as separate modules.

Best for: Teams that want Now, Next, Later rather than dated timelines.

  5. A modular product management suite with scoring, OKRs, and two-way Jira sync, sold by quote per editor.

Best for: Product teams that want to assemble their own planning stack and already expect a sales call.

  6. Timeline and swimlane roadmaps, sold as Strategic Roadmaps by Tempo, priced per editor with a published price.

Best for: Teams that want ProductPlan's timeline view with a price they can read before the call.

  7. Atlassian's idea and roadmap tool, built around Jira, with a free tier for small teams.

Best for: Teams already living in Jira who want ideas and roadmaps next to their tickets.

Where ProductPlan falls short.

ProductPlan has drawn timeline roadmaps since 2013, with portfolios, OKRs, dependencies, and Jira sync. It also has a price you can't see, on a contract you can't shrink, a public side customers look at, not one they use, a roadmap experience that is being replaced, and nothing that talks to the customer behind the roadmap.

One plan, by annual quote

Quote only; last listed at $49 and $89 per editor a month

ProductPlan sells one plan, the Product Intelligence Platform Plan, by annual quote. The price depends on how many people build roadmaps; viewers are free. The last numbers it published were $49 and $89 per editor a month billed yearly, still on its pricing page on June 20, 2024, and gone by August 6; the history is in our ProductPlan pricing guide. There is no free plan, and the trial is seven days. Its agreement renews for another term unless you give 30 days' notice, fees are nonrefundable, the renewal price can rise up to 10%, and you can't cut your licenses by more than 20% before a renewal. A Capterra reviewer in September 2024 wrote that after three years on a monthly plan he was given 20 days' notice to move to annual billing.

What UserJot does instead.

The roadmap is a page customers vote on, fed by a public board where they post the requests, and followed by a changelog that tells them what shipped. Live chat and support email land in one inbox, Juno answers customers first and drafts your changelog, and an MCP server lets your own agents read and update all of it.

Every plan has unlimited users and no editor seats, including Free. Paid plans start at $29 a month with a 14-day trial, and you're live in minutes. The roadmap has three columns, Planned, In Progress, and Done, with no timeline, portfolio, or OKR view.

A roadmap your customers can vote on.

Customers post requests and vote on the board. When you mark a request Planned or In Progress, it moves to that column on the public roadmap, votes attached, and visitors vote from the roadmap card too. Every status change emails everyone who posted, voted, or commented. When you mark one Completed, the changelog post links back to it.

The board, roadmap, and changelog live at their own URLs, indexed by Google, and the widget brings all three inside your app. On Starter and up, people can post and vote without creating an account, and the board can sit on your own domain, like feedback.yourcompany.com.

UserJot public roadmap with vote counts on each request.

Chat, email, and feedback in one inbox.

Conversations adds a Messages page to the same widget that shows your board, roadmap, and changelog. Customers chat with you from inside your product, and your team answers from the dashboard where it already triages requests. Forward your support address and email lands in the same inbox, with no DNS changes.

When a customer describes a feature in chat, Juno finds the matching request on your board and shows it to them. Once they confirm, she files it or adds their vote. Conversations is in beta and free on every plan while it is.

The UserJot inbox: a customer asks about a mobile app, and Juno finds the request on the board, adds the customer's vote, and resolves the conversation.

AI that talks to your customers, not just about them.

Juno is the AI operator built into UserJot. She answers new conversations first, in the customer's language, from your docs and the sites you point her at. When a person is needed, she hands the conversation to your team in the same thread.

In the changelog editor, Juno reads the requests you completed since the last post and writes the draft, with the title, tags, and linked requests filled in. She never publishes. The board itself checks for duplicates as people type, so five versions of the same request don't pile up.

The UserJot widget open on the right side of a customer's web app.
Demo of the UserJot widget Messages page: Juno hands a billing question to a human teammate, who resolves it in the same conversation.

Sorry about that! Refunds need a teammate, so I'm bringing one in now.

Hi, Sara here. Just refunded the duplicate charge, you'll see it back in a few business days.

An MCP server your agents can use today.

Your agent can read requests, file and vote on them, move them along the roadmap, draft changelog posts, and answer conversations. Ask your coding agent what customers have asked for in the area you're working on, or have it mark the request shipped and draft the changelog entry when the work merges.

It comes with the API on Starter and Professional. ProductPlan has a REST API and webhooks; no MCP server is documented.

Switching from ProductPlan to UserJot.

ProductPlan exports roadmaps as a spreadsheet and feedback-form responses as CSV. UserJot imports CSV with AI column mapping you check before anything is written, and the rest is a widget and a link.

If your data doesn't fit the CSV path, email support@userjot.com and we'll migrate it with you.

  1. Export from ProductPlan.

Open the roadmap and export it as XLS, which needs an editor license and is documented for the legacy experience, and save the sheet as CSV. Feedback-form responses export as CSV on their own. If your ideas live in the Ideas workspace, email us and we'll work out the path with you.
  2. Import into UserJot.

Upload the CSV. AI maps titles, descriptions, statuses, and dates to UserJot's fields; check the mapping, confirm, done. Anything whose status maps to Planned or In Progress shows on the roadmap as soon as the import finishes.

    Import from CSV →

  3. Put the roadmap where customers already are.

Add the widget to your app, and on Starter or above, put the board on your own domain, like feedback.yourcompany.com.

    Custom domain →

  4. Then cancel ProductPlan, on its schedule.

Give notice at least 30 days before your annual term renews, in your account settings or in writing. Access runs to the end of the term. Request your export within 30 days of that date; ProductPlan keeps the data up to 90 days and then deletes it.

ProductPlan alternative FAQ

ProductPlan doesn't list a price. It sells one plan, the Product Intelligence Platform Plan, by annual quote, priced on the number of people who build roadmaps, with viewers free. The last prices it published, still listed on June 20, 2024, were $49 a month for Basic and $89 for Professional, per editor, billed yearly; in early 2024 they were $39 and $79. Research panels are a separate charge: its help center shows $50 per consumer response and $75 per professional response.
