Zendesk Pricing in 2026: Seats, Suite and the $2 AI Meter
Shayan, Founder9 min read

Zendesk, the enterprise help desk, costs $19 to $115 per agent per month on annual billing, or $25 to $149 monthly. There is no free plan. Email-only ticketing starts at $19 on Support Team; chat, a help center and voice start at $55 on Suite Team. Its AI agent includes five automated resolutions per agent each month and then charges $2 each, so a two-person team handling 500 conversations pays $50 a month if humans answer everything and about $330 if the AI resolves 30% of them.
That last number is the one to look at. Zendesk's seats are cheaper than Intercom's or Help Scout's. Its AI is the most expensive of the three, and it is the part of the bill that grows.
Support or Suite
Zendesk sells two families. Support is tickets and email. Suite adds messaging and live chat, a help center, voice and the omnichannel routing. A SaaS team that wants chat in the app needs Suite.
| Plan | Monthly billing | Annual billing | What it covers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Support Team | $25 per agent | $19 per agent | Email and ticketing only |
| Suite Team | $69 per agent | $55 per agent | Adds chat and messaging, one help center, voice, two chat departments |
| Suite Professional | $149 per agent | $115 per agent | Adds skills routing, custom reporting, five help centers, 100 light agents, Copilot |
| Suite Enterprise + Copilot | Contact sales | Contact sales | SLAs, sandboxes, custom roles, data protection |
Every seat is a full agent at the plan rate. Light agents, who can read and leave internal notes, are included only from Suite Professional up, where you get 100. On Support Team and Suite Team the product manager who wants to follow tickets is a full seat. The trial is 14 days of Suite Professional with Copilot switched on, which is not the plan most small teams end up buying, so the trial bill and the real bill are different products.
Suite Growth, which used to sit between Team and Professional at $89, is no longer on the pricing page. The help docs still describe it, and whether a new customer can buy it is not something Zendesk says.
What else lands on the bill
AI agent resolutions, $2 each. Support Team and Suite Team include five automated resolutions per agent per month; Suite Professional includes ten. Past that, resolutions are $2 pay-as-you-go or $1.50 on a committed annual volume. Human handoffs are not billed. Zendesk introduced a new resolution-tier model in May 2026 in which a model checks whether the request was resolved and the allowance works as a pooled credit; the per-tier rates for that model are not published, and the pricing page still prints the older per-agent allowance and the $2 rate. Ask which model your account is on before you sign.
Copilot, $50 per agent per month. The agent-assist layer, priced on annual billing and bought for every agent. Suite Professional includes a token five uses per agent per month.
Voice and SMS. Suite includes the voice channel; numbers, minutes, texts, recordings and transcription are metered on top at rates that depend on the country.
Storage and automation. Each plan has a data and file storage allowance, 40,000 to 100,000 Action Builder actions a month, and external-event caps. Extra actions are $200 per 100,000. Most teams under ten agents never hit any of these.
Bundles. Workforce Engagement is $50 per agent and Contact Center $83 per agent, both annual, both for every agent in the account.
Seats renew in advance. AI, voice and overages bill monthly in arrears.
Three bills
Monthly billing, every agent a full seat, no Copilot, no voice usage, no startup credit. "With AI" means the agent resolves 30% of conversations at $2 each after the included allowance, on the allowance model the pricing page shows.
| Team | Support Team | Suite Team | Suite Team with AI at 30% |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 agents, 500 conversations | $50 | $138 | $418 |
| 5 agents, 2,000 conversations | $125 | $345 | $1,495 |
| 10 agents, 5,000 conversations | $250 | $690 | $3,590 |
On annual billing, Support Team is $38, $95 and $190, and Suite Team is $110, $275 and $550.
The included resolutions barely dent it. Two agents on Suite Team get ten free resolutions a month against 150 the AI would handle, and the other 140 cost $280, twice the seats. At ten agents the AI is $2,900 of a $3,590 bill. One Reddit poster in August 2026 described "running out of Automated Resolutions at an alarming rate" after a volume increase and went looking for an alternative. That is the arithmetic above, lived.
Against the others: Suite Team's seats cost about twice Help Scout's Standard and twice Intercom's Essential, and a Zendesk resolution costs two to three times either of theirs. For a team that will lean on AI, Zendesk is the expensive option of the three. The Intercom vs Zendesk comparison puts the two bills side by side at 2, 5 and 10 agents, and Zendesk vs Freshdesk does the same against the $19 seat.
All seven help desks on this site are on one table, with the same three teams costed on each, in help desk pricing compared.
Live chat, email and an AI agent, one flat price.
UserJot's support inbox and Juno come with every plan. No agent seats, no per-resolution fee.
Zendesk for Startups
New subscribers can get six months of Zendesk free for up to 50 agents. The eligibility rules differ between Zendesk's own pages: one says venture-backed up to Series B and under 250 employees, another says up to Series A and under 50. Either way the company has to be new to Zendesk, and when the six months end the seats and add-ons you have turned on are charged at list price automatically unless you change or cancel them before then. Put the end date in a calendar.
Nonprofits can apply for donated licences through Tech for Good. There is no published education or open-source discount.
Fine print that bites
- Charges are non-refundable and non-cancellable. Cancelling takes effect at the end of the billing term; a 12-month contract is owed in full.
- Contracts renew automatically for the same term and seat count unless Zendesk receives notice at least 30 days before renewal. Reducing seats also needs 30 days' notice before renewal; there is no mid-term reduction, and a May 2026 Reddit thread describes how hard the reduction conversation was.
- Suite is one product. You cannot cancel chat and keep tickets; a Support-only downgrade goes through support staff.
- Export access lasts 30 days after the term ends. Deletion starts 90 days after cancellation. Reactivation inside 90 days is possible but may carry a fee.
- Renewals are at then-current rates. The customer agreement was last replaced in August 2025, and linked policies can change on publication.
Is Zendesk worth it?
For a support organisation of twenty-plus agents with SLAs, skills-based routing, phone queues, multiple brands and an admin whose job is to run the help desk, yes. Nothing in this category is deeper, and the ecosystem of apps and partners is the largest. The 179 G2 mentions of a learning curve and the Capterra reviewer who wrote that "licensing and add-ons are costly" are describing the same product from the other end: it is built for teams that have someone to configure it.
For a SaaS team that wants chat in its app, the case for Zendesk is thin. Support Team at $19 is cheap but email-only. The moment you want chat in your app you are on Suite Team at $55 a seat, and the moment the AI agent is doing real work you are paying $2 a conversation on the most expensive meter in the market. The product's depth is the thing you are paying for and the thing you will not use.
The same three teams on UserJot
UserJot runs your public feedback board, roadmap and changelog, and the same product carries your support. Live chat on your site and support email land in one inbox. Juno, our AI agent, answers from your docs and the sites you point her at, searches the feedback board before she replies, writes in the customer's language, and hands the thread to a person the moment a question needs one. A feature request that arrives in a support chat gets filed, voted on and announced from the same place, and the customer who asked hears about it when it ships. Everyone on the team can work the inbox, because there are no agent seats.
The price is flat: $0, $29 or $59 a month for the whole workspace, with no meter on resolutions. Ten agents and 5,000 conversations cost $29, the same as five and 2,000.
| Team | Zendesk Suite Team, with AI at 30% | UserJot |
|---|---|---|
| 2 agents, 500 conversations | $418 | $0 |
| 5 agents, 2,000 conversations | $1,495 | $29 |
| 10 agents, 5,000 conversations | $3,590 | $29 |
Free covers three teammates. Starter at $29 covers up to 100, which is every other team on this page, and adds a custom domain, private boards, guest posting and the API. Pro at $59 adds single sign-on, identity masking and white-labelling. None of the tiers charge for conversations or for Juno.
Zendesk's edge is scale: SLAs, skills-based routing, phone queues, several brands and a thousand-agent org chart, with a Marketplace that covers more tools than any product on this page. A support department with an admin to run it should buy Zendesk and skip this section. UserJot has no phone, no SLA policies and no skills routing. It is for the SaaS team whose support is a chat widget, a support address and a docs site, and whose customers' feature requests deserve a public board with a vote instead of a tag on a ticket.
Questions people ask
How much does Zendesk cost?
$19 per agent per month for email-only Support Team on annual billing, $55 for Suite Team with chat and a help center, and $115 for Suite Professional. Monthly billing is $25, $69 and $149. AI resolutions past the included few are $2 each.
Does Zendesk have a free plan?
No. There is a 14-day trial of Suite Professional. The cheapest ongoing option is Support Team at $19 per agent on annual billing, and it has no chat.
Is there a free alternative to Zendesk?
For a small SaaS team, UserJot's Free plan includes live chat, an email inbox and Juno for up to three teammates, next to a feedback board and changelog. For a pure ticketing system, Freshdesk offers two agents free for six months.
What is the difference between Support and Suite?
Support is tickets and email. Suite adds messaging and live chat, a help center, voice and omnichannel routing. If you want a chat widget in your product you need Suite.
How are AI resolutions billed?
Support Team and Suite Team include five per agent per month and Suite Professional ten; after that, $2 each pay-as-you-go or $1.50 on a committed volume. Handoffs to a human are not billed. Accounts on the May 2026 resolution-tier model use a pooled allowance whose rates Zendesk has not published.
How much is Zendesk chat?
Chat is part of Suite rather than a separate purchase on the current pricing page: Suite Team at $55 per agent on annual billing, or $69 monthly, is the cheapest plan with the messaging widget. Legacy Zendesk Chat is scheduled for retirement on January 31, 2028.
How do I cancel Zendesk?
The account owner cancels from Admin Center on self-service accounts; managed accounts go through the account manager. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the billing cycle, and you need to give notice at least 30 days before an annual renewal or the contract renews for another year.
Can I get my data back after cancelling?
You have export access for 30 days after the term ends. Deletion begins 90 days after cancellation, and reactivation inside that window may carry a fee.
