Intercom Pricing in 2026: What a Small Team Actually Pays

Intercom, the customer support platform with Fin as its AI agent, costs $29 to $139 per agent seat per month, and then $0.99 every time Fin resolves a conversation. There is no free plan. The trial is 14 days without a card. A two-person team handling 500 conversations a month pays about $78 on monthly billing if humans answer everything, and about $227 if Fin handles 30% of it. Startups under 15 people can get most of the product for $65 a month in year one.

The three plans

Intercom sells three plans, all priced per agent seat. The $29 everyone quotes is Essential on annual billing.

Essential
$85/seat/mo
Advanced
$132/seat/mo
Expert

A seat is a full agent. Every full seat in a workspace has to be on the same plan, and you need at least one. Lite seats are for teammates who read and get mentioned but never reply to customers. Essential includes none, so on the cheapest plan a product manager who wants to watch the inbox costs the same as a support agent.

PlanMonthly billingAnnual billingLite seatsWhat it adds
Essential$39 per seat$29 per seat0Shared inbox, live chat, email, a public help center, Fin
Advanced$99 per seat$85 per seat20Multiple team inboxes, workflows, private and multilingual help centers
Expert$139 per seat$132 per seat50SSO, HIPAA, multiple brands, up to 100 help center sites

Expert is listed at $139 a month, but Intercom's billing FAQ only offers monthly billing on Essential and Advanced. Treat Expert as an annual plan.

Intercom also runs pricing experiments. Some visitors to the pricing page see $19 a seat for Essential on annual billing, inside what the page source marks as a test. If you see $19, take it. Do not plan a budget around it.

What else lands on the bill

Seats are the predictable part. These are the charges that move.

Fin, $0.99 per outcome. Fin is on every plan and is charged per resolved conversation, at most once per conversation. "Resolved" is broader than it sounds. If Fin answers and the customer goes quiet, that is a resolution. If Fin completes a handoff you configured as a Procedure, that is billed too. Ordinary escalations, where the customer asks for a human or Fin gives up, are free.

Two safety valves exist. A customer who comes back to the same conversation and asks for more help reverses the charge, even in a later billing period. And you can set a hard monthly spend limit that switches Fin off when reached, or switch it off entirely. Spend limits are not available during the trial.

Copilot, $29 to $35 per agent. Each agent gets 10 Copilot conversations a month free. Unlimited is $35 per agent on monthly billing or $29 on annual, and Lite seats cannot have it.

Proactive Support Plus, $99 a month. Tours, checklists, surveys, banners beyond the basics, and 500 messages sent. Messages past 500 are metered on a sliding scale that starts at $0.07 each. A tour that merely appears on screen counts as sent.

Pro, $0.20 per analysed conversation. Intercom's reporting add-on, with a $100 monthly minimum. An older help article still quotes $99 for 1,000 conversations; the pricing page links to the newer rate, so expect the newer one.

Phone numbers, call minutes, SMS, WhatsApp broadcasts and bulk email are metered on top. Most SaaS teams never touch them. If you will, Intercom publishes the rate ladders in its billing docs.

Seats are billed in advance and usage in arrears. The first invoice after you turn Fin on is the one to read carefully.

Three bills

Monthly billing, every agent on a full Essential seat, no Copilot, no Proactive, no startup discount. "With Fin" means Fin resolves 30% of conversations and the rest go to people.

TeamHumans onlyWith Fin at 30%
2 agents, 500 conversations$78$227
5 agents, 2,000 conversations$195$789
10 agents, 5,000 conversations$390$1,875

On annual billing, subtract $10 per seat per month: $58, $145 and $290 for the human-only rows.

At two agents, Fin triples the bill. At ten agents and 5,000 conversations, Fin costs four times what the seats do. Intercom's seat prices have not changed since at least January 2024. What grows is the per-resolution meter, and it grows with your customers, not your team.

One Reddit thread describes a 40-agent team whose bill went from roughly $4,000 to $9,000 a month after enabling Fin. That is a single unverified account, but it matches the arithmetic.

Live chat, email and an AI agent, one flat price.

UserJot's support inbox and Juno come with every plan. No agent seats, no per-resolution fee.

Intercom's Early Stage startup program

If you are a new Intercom customer with fewer than 15 employees and under $10 million raised, the Early Stage program is a different product. For $65 a month you get six Advanced seats, six Copilot seats, 20 Lite seats, Pro, Proactive Support Plus with its 500 messages, and 300 Fin outcomes a month in the first year, plus 15 sales qualifications.

That is a 93% discount, and it does not last. Year two is 50% off with 150 included outcomes. Year three is 25% off with 75. Fin outcomes past the included number, and all phone, SMS and WhatsApp use, bill at list price from day one.

A six-agent team that settles into Advanced plus Fin in year one is looking at several hundred dollars a month by year three. That is the moment most teams decide whether to stay. The package changed for anyone who joined after June 29, 2026, so earlier entrants may be on different terms.

Fine print that bites

  • Annual fees are non-refundable. Cancelling an annual plan mid-term does not produce a prorated refund.
  • Annual and multi-year contracts renew for another 12 months unless Intercom receives written notice at least 30 days before the renewal date. Monthly plans cancel self-serve at the end of the period.
  • After cancellation, your data is kept but you cannot get at it without resubscribing, and the terms say customer data access ends 30 days after termination. Export before you cancel, not after.
  • Renewals are at the current list price, and the terms let Intercom change prices before renewal for pricing, product or legal reasons.

Is Intercom worth it?

For a support team of ten or more that lives in the inbox, uses workflows, runs a multilingual help center and wants one vendor for chat, email, phone and proactive messaging, yes. The product is deep, and the people who review it well are the ones using that depth. Reviewers on G2 and Capterra praise setup from existing docs and the speed of routine answers; the recurring complaints are higher-tier gating and, in Capterra's words, that "pricing could be simpler."

For a SaaS team of two to five people, the question is whether you want a bill that tracks conversation volume. At that size most teams want chat on the site, an inbox for support email, and an AI agent that answers from the docs and hands off when it should. Intercom does all of that, and charges for the AI per answer, forever.

The same three teams on UserJot

UserJot is built for exactly that team. Live chat on your site and support email land in one inbox. Juno, our AI agent, answers from your docs and the sites you point her at, searches your feedback board before she replies, writes in the customer's language, and hands the thread to a person the moment a question needs one. Every teammate can work the inbox, because there are no agent seats.

The price is flat: $0, $29 or $59 a month for the whole workspace, on every plan, with no meter on resolutions. We priced it that way on purpose. A support tool should not earn more when your customers need more help.

TeamIntercom, with Fin at 30%UserJot
2 agents, 500 conversations$227$0
5 agents, 2,000 conversations$789$29
10 agents, 5,000 conversations$1,875$29

Free covers three teammates, which is the first row. Starter at $29 covers up to 100, which is every other team on this page, and adds a custom domain, private boards, guest posting and the API. Pro at $59 adds single sign-on, identity masking and white-labelling. None of the tiers charge for conversations or for Juno.

The inbox is one part of a product that also runs your public feedback board, roadmap and changelog. A feature request that arrives in a support chat gets filed, voted on and announced from the same place, and the customer who asked hears about it when it ships. Intercom's edge is breadth across channels: if you run phone or SMS support, it is the right tool. For a SaaS team whose support happens in the app and over email, UserJot does the job at a price that stays put.

Questions people ask

How much does Intercom cost per month?

From $39 per agent seat on monthly billing or $29 on annual, plus $0.99 per conversation Fin resolves. A two-agent team pays about $78 to $227 a month depending on how much Fin does.

Does Intercom have a free version?

No. There is a 14-day trial with no card required. The cheapest ongoing option is one Essential seat at $29 a month on annual billing, or the $65 startup program if you qualify.

What is the minimum I have to buy?

One full seat on any plan. Fin on its own, used with another help desk, has no seat requirement but carries a minimum commitment; Intercom's example is 50 outcomes a month, or $49.50.

If a customer gets a Fin answer and just leaves, is that billed?

Yes. An answer followed by silence counts as a resolution. If the customer returns to the same conversation and asks for more help, the charge is reversed.

Can I cap what Fin costs?

Yes. Workspace-level spend limits disable Fin when hit, and you can turn Fin off entirely. Caps are not available during the trial and cannot reduce a contracted minimum.

Does Intercom have a startup discount?

Yes. The Early Stage program is $65 a month in year one for new customers with fewer than 15 employees and under $10 million in funding, and it includes six Advanced seats and 300 Fin outcomes a month. The discount drops to 50% in year two and 25% in year three.

What is Intercom called now?

Still Intercom. The AI agent inside it is called Fin, and Fin is also sold on its own for teams on Zendesk or other help desks, which is where the confusion comes from.

What happens to my data if I cancel?

It stays in Intercom but you cannot access it until you resubscribe, and access ends 30 days after termination under the terms. Export first.
