Private boards
Private boards are useful when feedback should not be visible to everyone on a public board. Instead of turning requests into a shared public discussion, a private board keeps each submission scoped to the person who created it and your workspace admins.
Change a board between public and private
Boards are created as public by default. To change a board later:
-
Open Settings in your workspace, then go to
Feedback.
-
In Boards, find the board you want to change.
-
Click the board's visibility pill, which shows
Public
or
Private
, and choose the other option. The change applies immediately.
How private board visibility works
Private boards use a different visibility model from public boards:
- Workspace admins and owners can see all submissions on the board.
- Each author can see their own submissions on the board.
- Other users cannot see submissions they did not create.
- Guests do not see other people's posts. Authors can return to their own posts and comments while UserJot can identify them through their guest session.
That means a private board is not a public list of requests with restricted voting. It is a board where submissions stay visible to the author and your internal team only.
Hide one request on a public board
You can hide an individual request without changing its board by choosing Hidden from board. This lets you keep an account-specific request between its author and your team while other approved posts remain open for discussion.
A request shown on the board still follows its board's access rules. It cannot become publicly visible while it belongs to a private board.
When to use a private board
Private boards work best when feedback includes details that should not be shared widely. Common examples include bug reports, account-specific requests, enterprise customer feedback, or internal product requests that should stay confidential.
If the goal is open discussion, shared voting, and visible prioritization, use a public board instead. If the goal is controlled visibility, use a private board.
What users see
People can still submit feedback into a private board, but they do not browse other users' submissions there the way they would on a public board. A user can come back to see their own posts, while admins and owners can review the full board inside the workspace.
This makes private boards a good fit when you want to collect feedback through the same workflow without exposing every request to every visitor.
Plan availability
Private boards are available on the Starter and Professional plans. On the Free plan, the
Private
option is visible but disabled.
