Block senders

When someone abuses your chat or support email, block them from their conversation. Blocked senders cannot start new conversations or send replies, but they can still read their existing conversations. Nothing about the block is announced to them.

Block someone

  1. Open their conversation in the inbox.

  2. Select More actions in the thread header, then

    Block sender.

  3. Confirm in the dialog.

The block covers the identity behind the conversation: their visitor session, their member account if they have one, and their email address if one is on file. Re-blocking the same person from another conversation extends the same block rather than creating a duplicate.

Blocking is separate from spam. Mark as spam files one conversation away; Block sender stops the person from writing at all. Use both together when it fits.

What a blocked sender experiences

  • In the widget, their messages fail to send with a generic error. Their history stays readable.
  • Email they send is dropped quietly. There is no bounce, so nothing confirms to them that they are blocked.

Manage the block list

The list lives under Settings

ConversationsModeration.

Blocked senders shows everyone you have blocked and when. Each row has

View conversation to see the thread that led to the block, and Unblock, which also shows who placed the block.

Blocked IP addresses is a separate list of address-level rules. IP rules expire on their own after 30 days and disappear from the list when they do.

Unblock

Unblocking takes effect immediately: the person can start conversations and reply again. Unblocking a sender releases every handle in that block, but it does not lift a separate IP rule, and unblocking an IP does not lift a sender block. Check both lists if someone should be fully restored.
