Getting Started
Mask Public Identities
UserJot allows you to mask member identities on public-facing pages and email notifications. When enabled, member names and avatars are hidden from external users while your internal team still sees full details.
This feature is useful for:
- Organizations that need to protect member privacy on public boards
 - Teams that prefer to keep contributor identities internal
 - Companies with strict privacy requirements for customer-facing communications

How It Works
When identity masking is enabled:
- Public pages: Submission authors, commenters, and other contributors appear as “Anonymous” with a generic avatar
 - Email notifications: Actor names (e.g., “John commented”) are replaced with generic labels like “Someone commented”
 - Your team: Admins and owners always see full member details in the dashboard
 - Self-view: Members can always see their own name and avatar

Enable Identity Masking
To enable identity masking:
- Log in to your UserJot Dashboard
 - Navigate to Settings in the main menu
 - Select the Feedback tab
 - Find the “Mask Public Identities” toggle
 - Switch it on to enable masking

What Gets Masked
When masking is enabled:
- Feedback boards: Author names and avatars show as “Anonymous”
 - Comments: Commenter identities are hidden
 - Roadmap: Submission author details are masked
 - Activity feed: Actor names appear as “Anonymous” for non-admins
 - Email notifications: Names replaced with “Someone” or “The team”

What Stays Visible
Your internal team always has full visibility:
- Dashboard views show all member details
 - Admins and owners see full identities everywhere
 - Members see their own contributions with their name/avatar
 - Internal notifications are unaffected

Plan Availability
Identity masking is available on the Professional plan. If you’re on a Free or Starter plan, you’ll see the toggle disabled with an upgrade prompt.
Best Practices
- Enable masking if your organization handles sensitive feedback or operates in privacy-conscious industries
 - Communicate the privacy setting to your community if it’s an important value for your users
 - Remember that admins/owners are never masked, so their contributions remain attributed

By masking public identities, you can maintain privacy for your contributors while still benefiting from transparent feedback and roadmap sharing.
