Set a Fixed Language for Public Pages
UserJot supports 10 languages and by default automatically detects each visitor’s preferred language from their browser settings. However, you may want to lock your public pages to a specific language for consistency or to match your target market.
Why Use a Fixed Language?
There are several reasons you might want to set a fixed language:
- Target Market: Your product serves a specific region (e.g., French company targeting French users)
- Consistency: Ensure all users see the same language for a unified experience
- Translation Quality: Some translations may be more complete than others, so you prefer to use a specific one
- Brand Voice: Maintain a consistent tone and terminology across your feedback boards
Supported Languages
UserJot currently supports the following languages:
- English (en-US) - Default
- Arabic (ar-SA)
- Chinese Simplified (zh-CN)
- Dutch (nl-NL)
- French (fr-FR)
- German (de-DE)
- Portuguese - Brazil (pt-BR)
- Portuguese - Portugal (pt-PT)
- Russian (ru-RU)
- Spanish (es-ES)
How to Set a Fixed Language
- Go to your Dashboard
- Navigate to Settings > Branding
- Find the Language dropdown
- Select your preferred language, or choose Auto-detect to use browser detection
Auto-detect (Default)
When set to “Auto-detect”, UserJot will:
- Check if the visitor has previously selected a language preference
- Fall back to the visitor’s browser language settings
- Default to English if no match is found
Visitors can also manually switch languages using the language selector in the user menu.
Fixed Language
When you select a specific language:
- All public pages (feedback boards, roadmap, changelog) will display in that language
- The language selector will be hidden from the user menu
- Visitors cannot override the language setting
What Gets Translated?
The fixed language setting affects:
- Navigation labels (Feedback, Roadmap, Updates)
- UI elements (buttons, forms, menus)
- Status labels (Pending, Planned, In Progress, etc.)
- Empty states and placeholder text
- Authentication screens
Note: User-generated content (feedback posts, comments, changelog entries) is not automatically translated. The content remains in whatever language it was written.
Best Practices
- Match Your Audience: Choose a language that matches your primary user base
- Consider SEO: If targeting a specific region, a fixed language can help with localization signals
- Test First: Preview your boards in the selected language before committing
- Communicate Changes: If switching from auto-detect to a fixed language, consider notifying users
Frequently Asked Questions
Will this affect the dashboard?
No, the fixed language setting only affects public-facing pages. The admin dashboard language is separate.
Can individual users override the fixed language?
No, when a fixed language is set, the language selector is hidden and all visitors see the same language.
What happens to existing user preferences?
When you set a fixed language, any previously saved user language preferences are ignored for your public pages.
Can I use different languages for different boards?
Currently, the language setting applies to all public pages in your workspace. Per-board language settings are not supported.
